Lore & Background
Thragg is the Grand Regent of the Viltrumite Empire. He orders Conquest to kill Mark, Nolan, and Oliver after Conquest escapes from Cecil's detention center and returns to the empire. During the Viltrumite War, Mark, Nolan, Oliver, Thaedus, Allen, Tech Jacket, Space Racer, and Battle Beast follow the Viltrumites back to Viltrum. In the resulting battle, Mark, Nolan, Thaedus, and Space Racer destroy Viltrum. Enraged, Thragg decapitates Thaedus and gravely injures Mark, Nolan, and Oliver. Before he lands the final blow, Thragg spares them. After the Coalition believes the Viltrumites have gone to Earth, Thragg intercepts Mark, Nolan, and Tech Jacket and gives them an ultimatum: allow the remaining 37 Viltrumites to breed with Earth's population and replenish their ranks, or fight them all and have every living being on Earth likely killed in the resulting battle. Fearing for Earth's safety, Mark agrees, and the Viltrumite War ends in a truce.
In Their Own Story
Thragg stood upon the obsidian dais, gazing out at the swirling nebulae beyond the palace windows. His red eyes narrowed as a report flickered across the holographic display. Another world had fallen, another culture erased from history to make way for Viltrumite order. He raised a hand, signaling his generals forward. The galaxy was vast, but it would soon be theirs alone.
Reader's Guide
Thragg serves as the supreme antagonist representing the full might of the Viltrumite Empire across the galaxy. As Grand Regent, he possesses all standard Viltrumite abilities including flight, super strength, and extreme durability, amplified by his immense age and combat experience against countless enemies. His character arc shifts from a distant ruler issuing orders to a direct physical threat when Invincible challenges his authority on Earth. He believes in the absolute superiority of his species above all else, viewing other civilizations as mere resources to be harvested or destroyed for expansion. This ideology puts him on a collision course with Omni-Man's son and the Guardians of the Globe. Key moments include his arrival on Earth and the climactic battle that determines the fate of humanity. Thragg is defined by his arrogance and belief in destiny, expecting obedience from his subjects while punishing failure without mercy. While incredibly powerful, he underestimates the resilience and growth potential of Invincible, leading to his eventual downfall in the source material. He remains a symbol of tyranny that heroes must overcome to save their world.
